International Flight Essentials: What Is Actually Worth Packing

The most useful international-flight items solve predictable problems: proving identity, taking medicine, keeping essential devices powered, staying warm or rested, and managing an unexpected gate check or delayed suitcase. A disciplined kit is more useful than a long list of novelty accessories.

1. Documents and secure copies

Carry the passport, required visas or authorisations, boarding details, insurance information, accommodation address, and onward-travel evidence required for the itinerary. Keep offline copies accessible if the phone has no signal or battery. Store copies separately from originals without exposing sensitive details unnecessarily.

2. Medicine and health essentials

Keep essential medication in carry-on baggage in its original labelled packaging when possible, with supporting documentation for controlled, injectable, liquid, or temperature-sensitive items. Rules vary by country. Check the destination government, transit airports, security authority, and airline well before departure rather than relying on a general packing list.
