Over-the-Toilet Storage Rack: Fit and Safety Guide

An over-toilet rack uses vertical space well, but it must fit around the cistern, pipes and wall features and remain stable in a damp room.
Measure the complete space
Record floor-to-ceiling height, wall width, toilet width and depth, cistern height, flush-control clearance and skirting-board projection. Include lid movement and space for plumbing service.
Check stability
Use the supplied wall restraint when the manufacturer requires it and only with fixings suitable for the wall. Level adjustable feet and never rely on the toilet to support the frame.
Load shelves sensibly
Keep heavy items low and within stated shelf limits. Use lipped bins for small products, maintain ventilation around damp textiles and keep electrical appliances away from water.
Preserve access
Do not block shut-off valves, outlets, vents or cleaning access. Recheck fasteners periodically and stop using a rack that rocks, corrodes or has damaged welds.
Buying checklist
- Confirm dimensions, materials and compatibility.
- Compare maintenance, consumables and total cost.
- Read warranty, delivery and return terms.
- Stop using damaged or unsafe equipment.
