How to Measure for a Men’s Suit at Home

Online suit sizing works best when body measurements are compared with the seller’s garment chart. Size labels alone vary too much between cuts and markets.
Use the right setup
Use a flexible tape, thin clothing and a second person where possible. Stand naturally and keep the tape level without pulling it tight. Record centimetres and inches to avoid conversion mistakes.
Jacket measurements
Measure chest around the fullest point, then natural waist, shoulder width and sleeve length using the seller’s stated method. Compare a well-fitting jacket laid flat when the chart provides garment rather than body measurements.
Trouser measurements
Measure the waist where trousers will sit, seat at the fullest point, inside leg and preferred hem opening. Do not substitute jeans sizing. Check whether trousers have alteration allowance and whether the waist is finished or adjustable.
Before ordering
Read the chart for the exact product, identify the intended slim or regular cut, and prioritise shoulders and jacket length because they are harder to alter. Confirm included pieces, returns, tailoring allowance and destination delivery.
Practical checklist
- Confirm the exact product, material and intended use.
- Compare measurements and total ownership cost.
- Read current safety, care, return and delivery terms.
- Stop when instructions, condition or compatibility are uncertain.
